Southern Resonance

Winston-Salem NC

Southern Resonance was tenderly teased into existence in 2025 by Jeremiah (guitar, didgeridoo, vocals, various percussion instruments, dance interpretation) and George (Tibetan singing bowls, mix, and mastering) who began experimenting with the haunting notes of the Tibetan singing bowls on humid summer evenings after the kids were in bed. Their acoustic improvisations caught and snared the ear of local violinist, Cecilia (fiddle) who’s melodies and musical scholarship expanded the group’s repertoire.

The collective expanded rapidly. Contributing artists include Dorothea (clarinet, vocals), Jack (guitar, minor percussion, vocals), Robert (bass), Trevor (watercolor, projection), Isaac (drums), Daniel (congas, minor percussion), Ricky (barn cat), and Paul (vocals, video) all bringing their unique interpretations to the sprawling, magical creations that in a single song can span genres from traditional folk to modern doom metal. They currently play and record in a large barn. The structure lends their music an open, airy texture, often incorporating environmental sounds as atmospheric layers, from rain on the metal roof to passing aircraft and the holler of toddlers.

Southern Resonance has no defined leader. They embrace a shared sense of exploration, playfulness, and mutual respect for each other’s art, evident in the complementing layers they produce that never domineer. The occasional awkward note or missed beat is welcomed as evidence of human beings making art, in direct opposition to the pervasive, polished, plastic sound of generative artificial intelligence.

In an age when we often ask, "is this real?" Southern Resonance stands as a counterpoint to the machines, fighting for the soul of human creativity.
